By Kevin Eck

Chicago NBC-owned station WMAQ is putting its morning news team on-air a half-hour early starting Monday.

WMAQ will expand to the 4 a.m. hour on weekdays. The station says the newscast will be anchored by Zoraida Sambolin and meteorologist Andy Avalos. Sambolin and Avalos will be joined by Stefan Holt and traffic anchor Kye Martin at 4:30 a.m.

“NBC 5 News has a commitment to deliver the best local breaking news and weather coverage and this expansion will help us serve our viewers who wake up earlier,” said WMAQ station manager and vp of news Frank Whittaker.
