WMAQ, as well as the entire city of Chicago, is mourning the loss of sports anchor Daryl Hawks, who was found dead yesterday in an Atlanta hotel room.

The NBC O&O ran segments throughout the day yesterday, remembering the 38-year-old three-time Emmy winner who had been a fixture on Chicago TV as well as in the community since 2008.

Hawks had been in Atlanta to cover the Bulls’ playoff series with the Hawks and a moment of silence was held prior to last night’s game, which the Bulls won.

Viewers have taken to Hawks’s Facebook fan page in the wake of his death, leaving well wishes and memories.

“You were a great sports anchor and even a better human being,” one Facebook commenter wrote, summing up a sentiment shared by people throughout the Chicago area.
