WMAQ Adds 2

Chicago NBC-owned station WMAQ is adding a sports reporter/fill-in anchor and a general assignment reporter.

Ash-har Quraishi has joined WMAQ as a general assignment reporter after working for Al Jazeera America and CNN. The Chicago native has also worked at PBS station WTTW as a reporter for Chicago Tonight and PBS News Hour.

Sports reporter Mike Berman comes from WTTV in Indianapolis where he’s been the main sports anchor since December 2014. He’s also a Chicago native and starts Monday, August 15.

Before joining WTTV, Berman worked at Time Warner Cable News in Austin, WICS in Springfield, Illinois and KOMU in Columbia, Mo.

“Ash-har’s diverse reporting experience coupled with Mike’s inherent passion for Chicago sports, just made our already strong news team even stronger,” said Frank Whittaker, station manager and vp of News. “We welcome Ash-har and Mike to NBC 5 and congratulate Mike on his homecoming to our great city. We are very excited for our viewers to receive their local news reports and coverage of our world-class local sports teams.”
