A reporter and photographer from Columbia CBS affiliate WLTX were injured in Charlotte Wednesday night while covering protests that turned violent.

Reporter Mary Sturgill, who had just filed a report for the station’s 11 p.m. newscast, was tackled and brought to the ground, and her photographer, Eric Alkire, was hit in the back of the head. Both were transported to a Charlotte hospital for treatment.

The station reported that the crew’s backpack live gear was damaged during the incident.
