Karen Meyer, the WLS reporter who covered disability issues for the weekend morning show at the Chicago ABC owned station, has announced her retirement.
“As a person who is deaf in a hearing world, she overcame obstacles to achieve immeasurable success,” WLS news director Jennifer Graves said in a statement. “She has worked tirelessly at ABC 7 to shed light on issues pertaining to people with disabilities – reporting stories often ignored by other media outlets.”
Meyer, who started at WLS in 1991, was a professor at De Paul University from 2003 to 2014. In 1994, she was appointed by President Clinton to be vice chairperson of the President’s Committee on Employment for People with Disabilities.

Her last day is September 28.
