WKBN Meteorologist Don Guthrie Dies

After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, WKBN meteorologist Don Guthrie died on Sunday, at the age of 71.

Guthrie began his career at the Youngstown CBS affiliate in 1970 as a disc jockey and FM program director for WKBN radio. He later went on to become a weatherman for WKBN’s Noon News and was most recently the station’s chief meteorologist.

In late May 2014, Guthrie announced his cancer diagnosis in a special on-air report. Since then, he has received an an enormous outpouring of support from fans.

Guthrie is survived by his wife and three children. They released the following statement in the wake of his death:

Don wanted to say how much he loved serving the community and what an honor it was to be a part of your daily lives. The family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of support and love they have received over the past year.  It has been a great comfort to know how much he was loved.
