Buffalo CBS affiliate WIVB is benching the sportscast from its 6 p.m. newscast, moving sports into an “as news dictates” role. “Sports is not going away,” news director Scott Levy told the Buffalo News. “The sports team will still have the opportunity to produce content daily for the newscast.”
WIVB has no sportscast in its 5 or 5:30 newscasts, but will decide on any given day whether there’s sports to be covered:
“We’ll evaluate sports each day and decide its daily placement in the newscasts,” explained Levy. “It does not mean it will be necessarily higher or lower in regards to specifically weather, but more importantly viewer benefit.”
