With Some Help from Hurricane Irene, WNBC Launches 5 p.m. Newscast Two Weeks Early

WNBC has launched its 5 p.m. newscast a few weeks earlier than planned thanks to Hurricane Irene, FishbowlNY reported today.

The station — which announced plans to resurrect a 5 p.m. newscast in June — added an hour of news in place of “New York Live” last week as part of continuing coverage on Hurricane Irene. A WNBC spokesperson tells FishbowlNY that the station, which had slated the newscast to begin on September 12, did not want to lose momentum in the interim few weeks.
