WICS reporter Katie Heinz recently underwent back surgery as she continues to recover from injuries sustained during a car accident last year.
Heinz said in a statement that she has been “undergoing extensive physical therapy and rehabilitation.”
“Your thoughts, prayers and many acts of kindness have meant so much and have given me the strength to tackle that extra step during therapy,” Heinz said. “Though it may take awhile, I look forward to the day I can return to the Springfield community and my WICS family.”

Heinz was driving a station vehicle in December when she was rear-ended in Springfield, IL. The impact propelled her car into the oncoming lane of traffic, where it was struck again.
