Chicago CW affiliate WGN had a 20 minute window where the anchor’s mics didn’t work, leading Larry Potash and Robin Baumgarten to find creative ways to communicate.
During a live shot at around 7:00 a.m., reporter Nancy Loo tossed back to Potash, but Potash’s mic wasn’t working. Since Loo’s mic was the only one that worked, she was left to let the viewers know what was going on in between extended commercial breaks.
Potash and Baumgarten spent the time flashing written messages to the viewers. Baumgarten wrote “Now’s my chance to dance!!” and Potash wrote one that said “Boss said ‘Hey let’s get a cheaper audio board. No one will notice.'”
“We have been silenced,” said Baumgarten after the station fixed the issue nearly 20 minutes later. “That has never happened to us before.” Watch the video after the jump.
