WFTV’s Brian Monahan Heading to Seattle’s KIRO

Brian Monahan, meteorologist for Orlando’s ABC affiliate WFTV, will join the Seattle CBS affiliate KIRO as weekday morning meteorologist, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The Sentinel reports Monahan was lured away by former WFTV news director Bob Jordan who was named news director for KIRO in July.

“I consider Bob a great mentor and friend,” Monahan told the Sentinel. “It was truly a pleasure working for him for a couple of years here and, let’s be honest, when Bob comes calling and says, ‘I want you to come work in Seattle,’ it’s hard to say no! I’m excited to be a part of his new team in Seattle.”

Both KIRO and WFTV are owned by the Cox Media Group.

“It’s really been a great experience, personally and professionally, in Orlando,” Monahan said. “Obviously, I didn’t expect to be here just a couple of years, but when a promotion within the company to KIRO in Seattle was offered, it was hard to turn down.”

Monahan’s last day at WFTV will be next Saturday.  He will start his new job in the Northwest early next month.
