WESH’s Dan Billow Hit By Wave Seconds Before Air

By Merrill Knox

Hurricane reporters face all sorts of extreme conditions, from high winds to falling debris and many hazards in between. Hurricane Irene — which has not even made landfall in the U.S. yet — is already wreaking havoc on reporters up and down the coast.

Although you can’t really see his face in the picture, that’s WESH meteorologist Dan Billow up there, in the process of being soaked by a wave seconds before a live hit from Satellite Beach (watch the video, which includes hysterical laughter from Billow’s off-camera crew, here).

“I’m laughing a little bit because I just got splattered by a wave,” Billow said at the top of his report. “It was up to my waist, and it almost took me out of here.”
