WDTN Cuts Main Anchor Michelle Kingsfield

By Andrew Gauthier

Dayton NBC-affiliate WDTN has parted ways with Michelle Kingsfield, who anchored the station’s 5, 5:30, and 11 p.m. weekday newscasts over the past five years.

Kingsfield told the Dayton Daily News that she was “abruptly” let go last week, with the LIN-owned station failing to offer a reason for her dismissal.

Kingsfield has been a fixture on Dayton TV for over a decade.  Before joining WDTN in 2007, she worked as an anchor at WKEFWRGT, the market’s Sinclair-run duopoly.

In addition to anchoring WDTN’s evening newscasts with Mark Allan, Kingsfield anchored the 10 p.m. newscast on sister station WBDT.

Viewers have taken to WDTN’s Facebook page and criticized the station’s decision to let Kingsfield go.

“We need to get a group of people of people and go protest outside the station, the GM and news director should be fired,” one user wrote on WDTN’s wall.  “Guess WDTN doesnt care about ratings, if they did, they would bring back Michelle and hire more reporters, Michelle was great.”
