Veteran WDIV investigative reporter Kevin Dietz was released from jail Saturday after serving more than three weeks for DUI, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Dietz was jailed on April 18 under Michigan’s “super drunk” law, which increases the consequences for people convicted of driving with a blood alcohol content of .17% or higher. Dietz, who has worked at the Detroit NBC affiliate since 1993, was arrested February 12.
“I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, WDIV and to the viewers,” Dietz said in a statement posted to the WDIV website. “I accept full responsibility and am taking the necessary steps to deal with this matter.”
“Kevin has been forthright and accepted full responsibility and expressed remorse. He is taking appropriate steps to deal this situation and we believe that Kevin will continue to be an important contributor to WDIV now and in the future,” WDIV vice president and general manager Marla Drutz said.
