WCVB, Boston’s ABC affiliate tweeted about the hometown Patriots AFC Championship win today, but did so with a photo of the late Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriot star who was convicted of murder in 2015 and committed suicide in prison last April.
The tweet was removed after about 45 minutes.
The web story has also been taken down. It featured a 2011 photo of the Patriots-Jaguars preseason game in which Hernandez is seen diving for a loose ball.
“A news service that provides WCVB some digital content accidentally posted a picture of Aaron Hernandez in connection with the Patriots AFC championship win on our social media accounts,” a station spokesperson told TVSpy. “It’s truly embarrassing and unacceptable. We apologize and are working with that team to correct this error so something like this never happens again.”
