WCTV Sports Director Asher Wildman Rallies Fans to FAMU Basketball Game

By Aneya Fernando

Last Tuesday, WCTV sports director Asher Wildman gave a special report that he knew would anger viewers of the Tallahassee CBS affiliate.

Wildman’s package was on the low attendance at Florida A&M’s basketball games. The Rattlers have been on a losing streak as of late, and Wildman noted the lack of support from fans and classmates alike. On Monday January 26th, the night Wildman was at the game, only 607 people came out to watch FAMU play against Maryland Eastern Shore. The stadium was at a mere 6% capacity.

“I’m now challenging the FAMU community and RattlerNation to stop avoiding the problem and help become part of the solution,” Wildman said at the end of the segment. He encouraged fans to attend the following Saturday’s game against Bethune-Cookman.

Wildman’s enthusiasm paid off. With the hashtag #RallytheRattlers and Wildman’s help, more than 4,900 fans swarmed the arena on Saturday afternoon’s game. Although the Rattlers lost, their spirit was surely uplifted.
