WCPO morning anchor Kathrine Nero has been off the air for the past couple of weeks and on Wednesday she explained why.
“One month ago today…I found out that I have breast cancer,” Nero told viewers at the end of the Cincinnati ABC-affiliate’s morning newscast, as she fought back tears. “Now, I’m 38–young by breast cancer standards–and I have no family history, so this was the furthest thing from our minds. After the initial shock, it was time to fight it.”
During her time off, Nero underwent a lumpectomy and had some lymph nodes removed. Now she’s waiting on the next step, which will likely be radiation.
