WCAU anchor Renee Chenault-Fattah is on leave after her husband Rep. Chaka Fattah was charged with racketeering conspiracy, among other charges, yesterday.
WCAU wrote a statement at the end of its story about her husband saying, “Chenault-Fattah, who isn’t facing any charges, is currently on leave from NBC10.”
Yesterday, WCAU reported that federal prosecutors say Chenault-Fattah’s husband was indicted for paying off a campaign loan with charitable donations and federal grants, funneling campaign money to pay down his son’s student loan debt and disguising a lobbyist’s bribe as payment for a car he never sold.
Philly.com reports Chenault-Fattah was mentioned in the indictment.
Labeled as “Person E” throughout the 85-page indictment, Chenault-Fattah, one of the station’s most visible personalities and anchor of the 4 and 6 p.m. broadcasts, is portrayed as a participant in a scheme to falsely report the sale of her 1989 Porsche Carrera convertible to a lobbyist for $18,000.
