WAGA Anchor Amanda Davis Announces Retirement

By Kevin Eck

Amanda Davis, anchor for Atlanta’s WAGA, announced her retirement on-air last night. Davis has been on a leave of absence from the FOX owned station since November after an arrest for DUI.

“Atlanta has been home for me for thirty years, a couple while I was in college and 28 in television news,” said Davis in a 14 minute segment the station carved out of its 10:00 p.m. newscast. “There have been awards, honors and accolades.  There have also been challenges, disappointments and stumbles.”  She went on to say, “So it’s with a heavy heart that I announce now that I am officially retiring from FOX 5 as I look ahead to a new chapter in my life.”

The station had been promising viewers a “special message” from Davis this week.  It turns out it was a farewell tour of sorts. You can watch the video after the jump.

Davis also posted a goodbye to her fans on facebook saying, ”

It is with both a heavy heart and a sense of excitement about the future that I have decided to retire from FOX 5 and look ahead to a new chapter in my life. To my immediate family, my fabulous FOX 5 family, my great friends, and you, the Atlanta community that welcomed me into your homes for nearly 30 years, THANK YOU so much! http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/22081785/amanda-davis-retirement-special-message164
