Boston’s WBZ was knocked off the air during its 5 a.m. broadcast this morning forcing the CBS owned station to go with the network’s morning news feed.
The local station was back at 6 a.m. with anchors David Wade and Paula Ebben explaining the blackout. “We had a small little technical glitch which got us off late this morning,” Wade told viewers. “It was like the Y2K bug only 13 years and 18 days late.” The Y2K bug Wade referenced was the reset of computer clocks in the year 2000 that many thought would cause mayhem worldwide.
A WBZ station spokeperson told TVSpy, “The station had technical difficulties very early this morning in one of the control rooms. We aired network news until the issue was resolved and then we aired WBZ-TV Moring News. Everything is fine, now.”
WBZ along with WCVB (ABC), WSBK (MyTV) and WGBX (PBS) were taken off the air for a few days in April when faulty equipment at a Needham, MA, tower site malfunctioned. That problem has since been fixed.
