Gaylen Young, a veteran anchor and business reporter who worked at KGET in Bakersfield, CA for over two decades, died in a car accident on Thursday in central Utah.

Young spent most of his broadcast career with KGET, where he anchored the NBC-affiliate’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts, before moving to Salt Lake City in 2009 to be closer to where his children were living.

According to KSL, where he worked as an anchor-reporter in the mid-70s, Young, 59, was killed when the car he was riding in collided with another vehicle on the highway and rolled over several times. Young’s 16-year-old son, who was driving the car, escaped the accident alive, as did the driver of the other vehicle.

During his career, which also included stops at Los Angeles’ KTTV and KTLA, Young received several awards, including a Golden Mike and an Emmy.
