Univision Names Lourdes Torres VP of Regional News

Lourdes Torres has been named vice president of regional news for Univision News. In her new role, she will continue in her current role as director of special projects and add oversight for all programming on Univision O&Os.

“Lourdes is an outstanding news professional who has been part of Univision News for over two decades and has a deep understanding not only of our mission and style, but also of the Hispanic audiences we serve,” Daniel Coronell, Univision’s SVP and executive director of news, said in a statement. “With her expertise and her proven success in leading complex projects, she will be instrumental in helping us maintain a gold standard of journalistic excellence across all of our local news platforms.”

Torres joined Univision in 1986 and has held a variety of roles at the network. More in Univision’s release after the jump.

MIAMI – NOVEMBER 20, 2013 – Univision News, the award-winning news division of Univision Communications, Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that Lourdes Torres has been appointed vice president of Regional News and director of Special Projects for Univision News. In this new position, she will be responsible for ensuring that all news programming aired on Univision’s owned and operated local stations, as well as news content featured on Univision’s local digital platforms, meet the highest journalistic and production standards. Torres reports to Daniel Coronell, senior vice president and executive director of News at Univision.

As Vice President of Regional News and Director of Special Projects, Torres will lead Univision News’ efforts to enhance collaboration between network news and local news operations and attain a consistent level of quality across Univision’s television, digital, and radio news platforms. To that end, she will oversee all local newscasts aired on Univision’s owned and operated television and radio stations and their digital platforms. Torres will work closely with local news directors and editorial staff to develop original, unique content that informs and engages the Hispanic communities they serve, while consistently conforming to the level of excellence that characterizes Univision News.  In addition, she will leverage network resources, including programming and promotions, for local news integration and branding.

An award-winning journalist, Torres joined Univision in 1986, when it was still named Spanish International Network. Since then, she has held different positions within Univision News, ranging from assignment editor to executive producer, and most recently, director of Special Projects. She has received numerous recognitions, including two Emmy awards and a Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Political Journalism.
