KMSP has hired former CNN anchor Heidi Collins to fill the evening co-anchor seat vacated by Robyne Robinson, who left the station in May to run for Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota.

After seven years with CNN, Collins left in January when the network decided not to renew her contract.

Collins, who grew up just outside the Twin Cities, is excited to be returning to her home state. “I can’t believe I’m getting the chance to go back home to Minnesota and continue doing what I love,” she said. “I look forward to this next chapter in my career.”

In announcing the move, KMSP GM and VP Carol Rueppel emphasized Collins’ “wealth of broadcast experience.” “We’re pleased to welcome Heidi to our station,” he said.
