President Barack Obama began his State of the Union Address by mentioning Gabrielle Giffords.
“As we mark this occasion,” he said, “we are also mindful of the empty chair in this Chamber, and pray for the health of our colleague–and our friend.”
The President’s words filled the hospital room of Rep. Giffords as Mark Kelly watched the SOTU while holding his wife’s hand.
Tucson’s KOLD and KVOA posted a photo of Kelly sitting beside Giffords’ hospital bed. Like members of the SOTU audience, Kelly wore a special black and white ribbon honoring the victims of the Tucson shooting.
(The photo came from the Office of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords).
