As we reported earlier today, Gannett has named its newly formed broadcast and digital company TEGNA. That’s right, TEGNA.
People are… confused by this, to say the least. The news blew up Twitter, and within minutes #TEGNA was trending nationally.
Here are some of the best Twitter reactions:
It's gonna take forever to update all my business cards. @Gannett #TEGNA pic.twitter.com/Vgm5pAhm2y

With Gannett becoming #Tegna will other media companies follow suit?
Raycom –> Maycor
Hearst –> Trehsa
Sinclair –> Ranis
NBC –> CBN

The letters in the company name had to reapply for their jobs, and apparently only some made the cut.

Do all Gannett employees yell "#TEGNA!" if the stock drops?

I've been warned to carefully spell #TEGNA, because TENGA is already a company and I shouldn't look it up at work.

According to Google Translate #Tegna is Norwegian for "by both sides." Is that significant? http://t.co/mHRrBB1cDL

if you had "#TEGNA" for the new name of Gannett's broadcasting and digital operations, you totally won

So now we work for TEGNA. Providing top breaking news and…Swiss chocolate? Blood pressure medication? Was there a focus group?

I used to be a Gannett employee, lots of friends still are. Gotta say most of their recent moves have been head-scratchers #TEGNA
