Texas Reporter Acted as Press Agent for Event He Also Covered

Brett Crandall, a reporter and weathercaster for KGBT in Harlingen, TX, has a side job as the public affairs director for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Jim Romenesko reported Crandall sent out a press release as the LDS public affairs director about a church sponsored cleanup and home repair in the La Joya, Texas area. He then did a story about it for the CBS affiliate and posted the story on the station’s facebook page.

Romenesko sent the press release to Kimberly Wyatt, news director for KGBT. “I am unaware of much of the information listed below,” said Wyatt. “I will be looking into it.”
