Tampa’s Bay News 9 Dumps Anchor Leigh Moody

Palm Harbor native Leigh Moody was fired from her anchor job at 24-hour local cable newschannel Bay News 9 on Monday. Both Moody and officials at Bay News 9 declined to provide specifics, saying it was an internal personnel decision, though the anchor acknowledged she wasn’t the first local TV personality to lose a job in recent months.

“I don’t think this is anything surprising, given the current economic state,” said Moody, who anchored weeknights and overnights on the newschannel, featured on the Bright House Networks cable system.

The newschannel has already posted notices seeking a replacement, indicating cost cutting may not have been an issue. Moody, a broadcast journalism graduate from the University of Central Florida, anchored at Bay News 9 for nine years, coming to the Pinellas County-based newschannel after stints in Orlando, Charleston, S.C. and Flint, Mich.
