Steve Farber Named Acting General Manager of WGN

After today’s general manager shake-up in the Chicago market, Tribune Broadcasting has moved swiftly to fill the role left vacant by departing WGN general manager Marty Wilke.

Steve Farber will take over immediately as acting general manager of the Chicago CW affiliate. He is the current vice president of programming operations for Tribune. Farber steered the integration of WGN and CLTV, Tribune’s 24-hour cable news operation in Chicago, as the channel’s vice president of operations in 2009.

“Steve Farber is the perfect choice to step in now and lead the talented people at WGN-TV,” Tribune president Nils Larsen said in a statement.  “He’s very familiar with the station’s staff and operations and can assume his new responsibilities without missing a beat.”

Wilke takes over as general manager of rival WBBM on October 1.

“Marty Wilke has ably led this team since 2008, and we wish her well,” Larsen added.
