Scott Stanford Joins WPIX From Rival WNBC

Scott Stanford is joining WPIX, Tribune Broadcasting’s CW affiliate in New York City. Stanford will co-anchor the 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts alongside Tamsen Fadal beginning September 16.

It is a crosstown move for Stanford, who joins WPIX after four years as the weekend sports anchor at NBC owned WNBC. Stanford appeared on WNBC’s 11 p.m. newscast last night.

“I am impressed with Scott’s skills as a communicator, his ability to get to the essence of a story and his sports experience, which has proven he is quick on his feet,” WPIX news director Mark Effron said in a statement. “Just like our audience, Scott is a local guy who is passionate about this place we call home and I’m certain viewers will appreciate his candor and his personality.”

EMMY-AWARD WINNING ANCHOR SCOTT STANFORD JOINS PIX11 NEWS

BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 16

NEW YORK, N.Y. —August 27, 2013 –PIX11 News today unveiled its new Evening News anchor team, Emmy-Award winning anchor Scott Stanford will join the PIX11 News at 5 and the PIX11 News at 10 to anchor alongside Tamsen Fadal weekdays beginning September 16th.

Stanford, a 4-time New York Emmy Award-winner for “On-Camera Achievement,” joins Tamsen and Mr. G at PIX11 from NBC where has most recently served as the sports anchor for WNBC, the fill-in host for The Crossover on NBCSN and the news anchor on WNBC’s COZI TV (formerly New York Nonstop.)  Stanford is also an in-studio host for WWE.

Stanford has also worked in the New York market at WNYW Fox 5 and WWOR My9. Prior to joining My9, Stanford was the full-time afternoon sports anchor on WCBS Newsradio 880 where was twice awarded the “AIR Award,” which recognized him as the best radio sports anchor in New York City. He began his broadcast career at WFAS in Westchester County and WRKL in Rockland County.

“As a lifelong New Yorker, my entire broadcast career has been based here and I am thrilled to be joining a station with such a strong New York heritage. I have watched PIX11 since I was a kid and I can’t wait to get started in the newsroom,” said Stanford.

Stanford has also been a play-by-play announcer for college basketball and arena football.  In addition, he has been heard as an announcer and voice-over artist for many national television programs including The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the GQ Men of the Year Awards.

Stanford received a degree in Broadcasting and Communications from the State University of New York at Oswego. He currently lives in northern New Jersey with his wife and daughters.
