Sara Underwood Leaving WFXT to Focus on Family

By Andrew Gauthier

Sara Underwood is leaving her job as weekend anchor and general assignment reporter at Boston’s WFXT so that she can spend more time with her family.

“It’s all about the family,” Underwood told the Boston Herald about her decision to leave the Fox O&O, where she’s worked since 2008. “It was a tough decision to make. For the last several years, I’ve worked weekends, nights and holidays–and I’ve missed out so much on my daughter’s life.”

Underwood, who anchors WFXT’s 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts on Saturday and Sunday in addition to reporting during the week, has a 7-year-old daughter and is currently pregnant with her second child.

Underwood says that she wanted to spend time with her young daughter before the new baby comes while also taking it easy during the pregnancy.

She is the second major anchor to leave Boston TV this week. WHDH’s Frances Rivera announced on Thursday that she is leaving for a job in New York.
