Two on-air talent at two different stations roughly 1800 miles apart are being hailed separately as heroes.
San Antonio, TX, anchor Delaine Mathieu said she was on her way home from NBC affiliate WOAI when she came upon a man named Paul Hernandez who had been hit by a car on the freeway.
Hernandez’ car had spun out and hit the freeway median after blowing a tire. He was hit when he got out of his car. Mathieu fashioned a tourniquet out of a scarf and tied it around Hernandez’ nearly severed leg. She was credited with saving his life.
In Yonkers, NY, just north of New York City, John Huddy reporter for FOX owned station WNYW saw a man fall on the tracks of at a Metro North train station. While Huddy’s photographer rolled, several people along with Huddy teamed to pull the man to safety. According to the New York FOX owned station, the man was unhurt.
Mathieu said thanks to viewers on her facebook page who reached out to her about the accident, “A quick thank you for all your amazing comments of support and encouragement regarding the accident. I can’t tell you how much it means to me, to Paul and to Marc. It was a scary and intense night for all of us and we’re beyond thankful that Paul survived and is getting better.”
