Salt Lake City’s KSL Eliminates On-Air Editorials

Salt Lake City’s KSL is eliminating both the practice of on-air editorials and the full-time job of Con Psarras, who is vice president for editorials and special projects at the NBC affiliate.

In a memo to employeees obtained by The Salt Lake Tribune, Mark Willes, CEO of the KSL broadcast group, wrote, “While it is important for KSL to have a vehicle to express editorial opinions, I have concluded that these opinions are most effective when there are clear issues of great importance to the community which KSL needs to address. Therefore, we will no longer produce regular weekly editorials.”

As a result, the station will eliminate Psarras’ position, which he has held since January. He will continue to work for the station as an independent contractor, according to the Tribune.

KSL has produced on-air editorials since 1962. They have historically been delivered by station presidents or general managers, including Don Gale and Duane Cardall.
