Sally Wiggin Leaving WTAE Anchor Desk

By Kevin Eck

WTAE has announced noon anchor Sally Wiggin will transition from the anchor desk to hosting “WTAE Chronicle.”

“Stations have to think of the future and they want me to be a part of that and that’s validating,” Wiggin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “When you get to this age, you want to be challenged because it’s good for your brain. This will challenge me in a way reading a TelePrompTer was not.”

“WATE Chronicle” is an ongoing series of news specials featuring in-depth reporting about Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. Wiggin will continue to report for the Pittsburgh ABC affiliate and will anchor “WTAE Black & Gold Primetime,” the station’s pre-game show for its Pittsburgh Steelers’ games.

“Sally embodies one of the most significant careers in Pittsburgh journalism,” said WTAE president and general manager Charles W. Wolfertz III. “In her over 33 years of service to Pittsburgh on WTAE she has become a household name. She is a born story teller and WTAE is well served to have her professionalism and experience on a station priority as important as Chronicle.”

Wiggin started at WTAE in 1980. She has been an anchor at the station for over 32 years.
