In the wake of the devastation left by Hurricane Sandy local TV stations, station groups and networks are pitching in to help out those affected. Here’s the roundup of who is doing what so far:
TODAY:
>WPVI, Philadelphia’s ABC O&O will air “Helping Our Neighbors: Surviving Sandy”, a live telethon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for those who would like to donate to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund.
According to TVNewser, “In addition to American Red Cross volunteers, special guests will be stopping by to lend their support to the telethon. The long list of guests includes Mayor Michael Nutter, Pat Croce, Vince Papale, Top Chef Kevin Sbraga, celebrity chef Michael Schulson, radio personality Nicole Michalik, Temple Basketball Coach Fran Dunphy, Flyers Head Coach Peter Laviolette, several of the Sixers star players, WMMR-FM’s Pierre Robert, Olympic Gold Medalist Carli Lloyd and many more familiar faces.”
>KNBC, the Los Angeles NBC owned station has teamed up with the American Red Cross for the ‘NBC4 Sandy Relief’ telethon. The telethon runs until 7 p.m. tonight. Viewers are encouraged to call: (866) 658-1903 and make a donation of any amount.
NBC4 news anchors and reporters will join volunteers from the American Red Cross to answer calls during the 14-hour telethon. Regular programing will continue, with updates from the call center throughout the day and during the station’s newscasts.
Donations are also welcome through the KNBC website. Click on the ‘Sandy Relief Fund’ button. Money collected will be donated to the American Red Cross to help fund their efforts in providing shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

SUNDAY:
>WVIT, the Hartford-New Haven CT NBC owned station, will hold a Storm Relief Drive on Sunday to benefit Connecticut residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
The event will take place in the IKEA parking lot at 450 Sargent Drive in New Haven from 9 a.m. to Noon.
Non-perishable food, personal care items, warm coats and cash donations will be accepted by the Connecticut Food Bank, Salvation Army, and the American Red Cross.

MONDAY:
>ABC Owned Stations present the “Day of Giving” airing American Red Cross PSAs and keep viewers updated on how to get involved. The day will begin with ‘Good Morning America’, followed by ‘LIVE with Kelly and Michael’, ‘The View’, ‘The Chew’, ‘Katie’, ‘World News with Diane Sawyer’, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘Nightline’ airing special programming dedicated to raising money and highlighting stories of those affected by the hurricane.

>WCAU, the Philadelphia NBC owned station will present “NBC10 Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund” Monday from 6 AM to 12 midnight. During regular programming and newscasts, viewers will be asked to call 1-877-NBC-WCAU (1-877-622-9228) to donate to the American Red Cross.
For those who would rather donate their time instead of money, the station has also partnered with The United Way. Those interested in volunteering for clean up efforts can visit the WCAU website and click on The United Way ‘United For Impact’ button to sign up.
Donations can also be accepted on WCAU’s website by clicking on the ‘Sandy Relief Fund’ button.
