KCNC reporter Shaun Boyd revealed she was told to stay away from certain topics during her interview with presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney this morning.
“There one stipulation to the interview was that I not ask him about abortion or Todd Akin,” Boyd, the political specialist at the Denver CBS O&O, said on the 12 p.m. newscast today (video above).
A Romney campaign spokesperson told Politico, “This is not how we operate. The matter is being addressed.”
Boyd is the same reporter who drew Romney’s ire earlier this year for asking him a question about medical marijuana.
>Update: The Denver Post has more details from KCNC news director Tim Wieland, who said the campaign told the station, “we have to tell you he doesn’t want to talk about abortion.”
Wieland said the conversation was with a Romney campaign staffer. He added that the station told the Ronmney camp that the segment would have to be transparent about that, and the Romney staffer understood that.
Wieland said the station decided to take the deal because there were many other topics to ask Romney about, and because the station could be clear about the ground rules on the air.
