Rob Schmitt is joining WNBC, the NBC owned station in New York City, as noon anchor and a general assignment reporter. Schmitt moves to New York after two years in Los Angeles, where he was the weekend anchor for CBS O&O KCBS.

Schmitt will take over for Tom Llamas on the noon newscast beginning July 15. Llamas will continue to co-anchor the 5 p.m. newscast alongside Shiba Russell, as well as take on an expanded role with the station’s investigative team.

“We are pleased to have Rob join the team and bring his reporting skills to the New York market,” WNBC vice president of news Susan Sullivan said in a statement.
