Regis Philbin to Host Daytime Emmys

Sure, Regis Philbin portrays a grumpy nonconformist on his morning TV chatfest, but he just proved he’s really a good sport. Although “Live With Regis and Kelly” has never won best talk show at the Daytime Emmys, he’s agreed to host the awards ceremony on June 27, when it will be telecast from Las Vegas by CBS. Philbin and/or his TV program are usually nominated every year, but he usually snubs the Daytime Emmy ceremony. He wasn’t present in 2001 when he won the award for best talk-show host (for “Live”) plus game-show host (“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”), although he accepted via satellite from Atlantic City, where he was performing a nightclub act with “All My Children” star Susan Lucci.
