Rachel Barnhart Leaving WROC

WROC anchor and reporter Rachel Barnhart plans to leave the Rochester, N.Y. CBS affiliate tonight to possibly run for political office.

According to the Democrat & Chronicle, Barnhart is expected to make a run for the New York State Assembly in September.

“I’m leaving to pursue new opportunities,” Barnhart said. “I’m extremely grateful for WROC’s support over the last few years I’ve worked there.”

Barnhart worked at WROC twice in her career. The first time, from 2000 until 2006 the Democrat & Chronicle says she sued the station when she left, challenging “an industry standard barring TV reporters from seeking work at other stations after leaving a job.” She went on to work at Rochester’s ABC affiliate WHAM before returning to WROC in 2013.
