Producer Charged in WCCB Newsroom Brawl

The fall-out continues from last week’s newsroom brawl at WCCB as the news producer involved in the dust-up has been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

Earlier reports of the fight involving anchor Brien Blakely did not include the producer’s name. Now police reports indicate that Edward Boyce Jr., 31, was Blakely’s sparring partner last Tuesday evening.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Boyce told police last week that, roughly three hours before the station’s 10 p.m. newscast, Blakely ripped his glasses from his face, placing him “in fear for his safety.”

Boyce was arraigned on the charges Monday night and posted $300 bond.

WCCB, a Fox-affiliate in Charlotte, fired Blakely and Boyce last week following the incident.
