The Tennessee Valley Authority provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average.  Established by Congress in 1933 to address a wide range of environmental, economic, and technological issues, including the delivery of low-cost electricity and the management of natural resources, TVA also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
