Police Accused of Inappropriately Questioning Former WABC Weathercaster Heidi Jones

By Andrew Gauthier

Former WABC weathercaster Heidi Jones may escape charges of making false claims to police after it was revealed in court today that officers may not have appropriately handled their questioning of her.

After telling police that she was assaulted by a man in Central Park last fall, Jones eventually admitted that she had made the whole thing up. At the time, though, the police failed to read Jones her rights.

Speaking outside the courthouse, defense lawyer Paul Callan told reporters that police questioned Jones for hours without giving her a Miranda warning, according to the Daily News.

The prosecution is arguing that officers were not required to read Jones her rights since the questioning was part of an ongoing criminal investigation that she initiated. The judge has called for further hearings to discuss the matter.
