Pizza Joint Tells South Bend Station it Won’t Cater Same Sex Weddings

By Kevin Eck

South Bend ABC affiliate WBND interviewed the owners of a pizza parlor who say they won’t cater weddings of same sex couples.

The O’Connor family owns a pizza shop in Walkerton, Indiana. They say their business is a “Christian establishment.” The O’Connors told WBND reporter Alyssa Marino, “If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no.”

WBND news director Aaron Ramey told TVSPy, “We were curious about how Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act was playing in smaller communities. Our only interest was deepening our coverage of this controversial law and its impact locally.”

This comes after Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law. The state has come under fire for the law, which critics argue allows any for-profit business to discriminate under the guise of protecting religious freedom.
