Phil Lipof Leaving WCVB

By Kevin Eck

WCVB anchor Phil Lipof is leaving the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate on Friday, July 1.

Yesterday WCVB announced Ben Simmoneau was taking over Lipof’s role as 5 p.m. anchor and would co-anchor at 10 p.m. on MeTV with Maria Stephanos.

The Boston Herald says news director Andrew Vrees told staff Lipof was being moved to a night-side reporting position, “effective immediately.”

“I’d like to thank Phil for his many contributions to NewsCenter 5 over the last couple of years and wish him well with his future endeavors,” Vrees said.

The Herald says Ed Harding or Maria Stephanos would fill-in for Lipof until Simmoneau starts Wednesday, July 6.

Lipof came to WCVB from WABC in New York in December 2013.
