Orlando’s WKMG Hires Son of Rival News Anchor as Reporter

WKMG, the Orlando CBS affiliate, has hired Justin Warmoth as a reporter and mobile journalist.

The last name may sound familiar to Orlando viewers. Justin’s father, Greg Warmoth is the anchor for Orlando ABC affiliate WFTV.

The elder Warmoth, Greg, told the Orlando Sentinel with his fatherly coaching, his son is a natural. “I’ve told him, ‘You’re so much better than I was in terms of his voice, look and confidence,” Greg said. “He played in four straight college world series. He doesn’t get nervous.”

“I have great respect for Greg Warmoth,” WKMG general manager Skip Valet told the Orlando Sentinel. “Clearly Justin has grown up with a solid broadcaster as a role model. Justin’s intelligence, energy and ability earned him this opportunity.”

Justin, who was a sports intern at his father’s station, denies any hint of a family competition. “He’s such a great dad,” Justin said. “He’s always been my hero.” And he gives credit to the team at his father’s station for bringing him this far. “Those guys at Channel 9 have been a great help in developing me.”

Justin Warmoth’s first day at WKMG will be Monday.
