Orlando’s WESH Expands News, Shifts Anchors

By Mark Joyella

Orlando NBC affiliate WESH announced a shift in anchors Wednesday, along with an expanded 10 p.m. newscast. The changes take effect Monday.

The Orlando Sentinel reports WESH will expand the newscast it airs on CW affiliate WKCF to one hour, with anchors Stewart Moore and Angela Taylor.

Elsewhere, Jazmin Walker will anchor weekday mornings on WKCF with Brett Connolly, and Summer Knowles will join Meredith McDonough on WESH at 4 p.m.:

The changes mean higher-profile jobs for three African-American anchors: Moore, Knowles and Walker. Moore has worked mornings, Walker has been on weekend mornings, and Knowles has anchored weekend evenings.

Jim Carter, general manager of WESH and WKCF, stressed that the changes are about talent.

“We have bench strength — our cup runneth over,” Carter said. “A year ago, we really embarked on expanding the size of our anchor talent. They’ve all done tremendous work. We’re finding places for people. We’re fortunate.”
