One-Third of Local Stations Airing News Don’t Produce It

A recent RTDNA and Hofstra University survey says that of the 1,053 stations airing local news, 339 of them get their news from another station.

The survey shows the number of CBS affiliates getting news from another source rose by five to 38, while Fox affiliates lost five, bringing the number to 97, which could mean they’re producing their own news or dropping it. NBC affiliates remained the same at 24 while ABC affiliates lost three bring the number to 27.

The survey also showed three stations stopped producing their own local newscasts bringing the total number from 717 in 2015 to 714 in 2016.
