Nine Years After KENS Departure, Albert Flores Will Be Back on San Antonio TV, At Least Temporarily

By Merrill Knox

Albert Flores, a former weathercaster at San Antonio’s KENS, left the CBS affiliate in 2002 after The San Antonio Express-News accused him of plagiarizing weather columns he was writing for the paper. Now Flores is getting a second chance to report the weather — at another San Antonio station.

Flores will be guest-forecasting on WOAI, the market NBC affiliate, from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. next week. “WOAI said, ‘Let’s do it for a week and see what kind of audience response we get, so I’m hoping people tune in and respond positively,’ Flores told The Express-News. “And if not, I’m back to sweeping floors.”

Flores, who launched his own digital advertising company called Diverse Media while he was away from the television business, said he would be open to a permanent job with WOAI.

“I went in and cut an audition tape,” he said. “They were impressed that after eight years, I just got up there and did it. They liked what they saw obviously, and asked me back. It was like riding a bike.”
