News Director Amy Morris Exits Roanoke’s WDBJ

By Andrew Gauthier

Amy Morris, who has been WDBJ‘s news director since 2007, is leaving the Roanoke CBS-affiliate.

So far, details about the departure are scarce and it’s unclear if Morris, a native of Roanoke, left on her own accord or if she was let go.  The timing of her exit is significant, though, as it comes just weeks after February sweeps data was released.

As The Roanoke Times points out, the February ratings book showed that WDBJ’s long-standing lead among local newscasts had slipped–although the station’s current ratings slide began before Morris took over as news director.

Morris began her TV career with WDBJ, working as a reporter and producer for the station from 1991-98.
