Dominic Carter‘s situation keeps getting worse. On trial for domestic abuse, the New York political reporter who was the host of “Inside City Hall” on NY1 has been criticized for courtroom name-dropping and effectively fired from his job.
During trial proceedings for a domestic abuse charge stemming from an alleged altercation between Carter and his wife Marilyn in October of 2008, Carter tried to sway the judge, according to The Daily News, by emphasizing his journalistic standing in the city and claiming to be friends with such powerful people as Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau.
When told of Carter’s courtroom actions, NY1 spokesman Steve Paulus declared, “That kind of behavior violates every principle of journalism and is not something we tolerate.” Carter has been on leave from the station since the beginning of the trial but Paulus emphasized, “At this point, we have no plans to bring him back.”
This week Carter left New York with his wife and flew to Kansas City, Missouri, where he was scheduled to give a speech at an NAACP event. According to The New York Post, Carter cancelled the speech once there because “he wasn’t feeling well.”
