The first few months of a new job can be difficult for anyone. But in Camille Edwards’ first three months as vice president of news for WABC, she was faced with covering a hurricane, a presidential election and a nor’easter that pounded an already tattered east coast.
Edwards joined the New York ABC O&O from the Washington, D.C. NBC owned station, WRC in August. She told TVNewsCheck, despite the size of the challenges she faced in her first few months on the job, she and her staff didn’t back down,
“Each of these three big stories would have been enough to wear down any newsroom. The fact that we had three stories back-to-back and the team still was coming in with smiles on their faces and wanting to know what they could do is, like, wow.”

Talking about covering the hurricane, Edwards told TVNewsCheck the news staff at WABC took good care of her,
“It’s amazing to me to see how this team operates…. I relied on them a lot. They are experts in knowing the market, just knowing where to go and who to talk to. This is a machine that is well oiled.”
She also said despite the abrupt news welcome, she and her team are now ready for anything,
“I am not saying anything about this being about New York, but who knew it would be this crazy? But this city is so resilient, and this team is so resilient, that we will be ready for whatever comes our way.”
